Towards other English languages: English as a Lingua Franca, Translanguaging and Identity of Teachers of English

This course aims to expand the linguistic, cultural, and pedagogical repertoire of pre-service teachers in English Language Teaching (ELT) degree programs, as well as advance their critical education process. Through a reflective and research-informed approach, students will engage with key themes in contemporary ELT, including English as a Lingua Franca, teaching material development, linguistic proficiency and intelligibility, conceptions of language, culture, and interculturality, assessment, technology in language teaching, and power dynamics in English language education.
By critically analyzing these topics, students are expected to develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of English language teaching in their local contexts and to reflect on their roles as educators in an increasingly globalized world.
