A Transformative Journey: Teaching, Learning, and Connecting with Cuenca's Community

Hi! My name is Nathan Hosmer Nevarez and I was selected as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to Ecuador for the 2024/2025 academic year. I’m beyond excited to be placed in Cuenca and paired with La Universidad del Azuay. Since coming to Cuenca I have had the privilege of assisting the major of Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros. Through the Language Pedagogy Program at UDA not only have I been able to connect with a wider variety of students from all English speaking levels through tutoring hours but I’ve grown to find exciting and dynamic ways to engage with them while they practice their English. Additionally, I’ve been given the opportunity to give lectures on topics ranging from the university experience in the U.S. to breaking down how the U.S. elections work. I’m grateful for the opportunity given from the collaboration between the Fulbright commission and UDA to gain this enriching experience through language education!
