It’s a Wonderful Experience

Have you ever wondered how each student experiences their educational journey differently? For example, in the same class, one student may have easy access to different tools and sources that benefit their learning process while another student may lack even the most basic tools such as a laptop. This is the reality that many if not all schools in Ecuador encounter daily.

As a student of the English Pedagogy Major or (Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros) you will encounter many circumstances that will enrich your vision of education, especially in our national context. As a graduate of this major, I was able to understand that each student is their own world and story. For example, in a linking project to society, I worked in a Foundation that provided extracurricular assistance to children whose parents labor in the Arenal Market also known as the “Feria Libre”. Here, many students had difficulties in their education but also as people who come from low-income backgrounds. Having the opportunity to provide aid to these students enriched my personal vision of my country. Many students have a true desire to make the best of each opportunity. Nevertheless, I was able to better understand students without an interest in their studies and the problems they face at home every day become a huge factor which broadens your understanding of these “problematic” students. Furthermore, I was able to meet exchanges since the foundation worked with an organization from Germany which sent exchange students to work at the foundation.

These are just one of the many different experiences you will be able to share alongside your peers as a student of the major. In the end, being in this major has changed my perspective on life, education, and my view on the English language as whole.
